Hi all. I've searched a few different terms, and couldn't find anything related to the issue I'm having. Mods, if this thread needs to go in a different forum, please move it. (I am using OSX 10.8 though)

The wife and I have iPhones that are sync'd to one Mac. We are trying to use the same account for music, but on separate user accounts through the Mac. Naturally, my user account works fine as the music playing goes. However, when I set up her user account and iTunes, I can't get her iTunes to play my music.

Currently, everything for iTunes is located under: Users>Shared>iTunes. Under my wife's account, I hold down Option while clicking on iTunes to open it. I point iTunes to the Library file and while it locates it and everything physically appears in her iTunes, none of the music plays.

Here is a screen shot of how my iTunes stuff is set up:

Can anybody help me out? Thanks much in advance!

i dont think it's possible to have separate accounts on the same mac with identical music library pointed at the same place.

you could have the folders that point to iTunes Media(under preferences), pointed at the same folders.
[but this way would be too messy, it will merge all library components together, including apps, etc.]
but you would have to manually place the music into her library too.
so it won't be auto in-sync, say if you added a music - it won't pop up in her library unless u add it in too.

Thats what I was thinking. The reason why I was trying to do this was when we use the same user account on the Mac then sync both of the iPhones, we both can't use Cloud to back up our Contacts. If we do, they both become merged on the Mac Contacts folder. Is there anyway around this?

The current work around that I'm using, is I've set up GMail through the Microsoft Exchange option through the iPhones and the Contacts sync like this.

You both can use separate (Apple ID accounts) iCloud accounts. Use it to store your contacts, and untick the contact sync-ing with iTunes.

And you both can use identical Apple ID for purchases, (if that's where I am guessing the music is from)
