Syncing and Streaming MacPro Itunes and Apple TV

I have been trying for months to sync my ITunes purchased movies/tv shows on my computer to my Apple TV. My ATV is 40gbs, so I use the custom sync as I have more than 40 gbs of stuff. I have no problem pulling ATV-purchased shows to the computer, but I can't get anything I purchase on Itunes via computer onto the ATV.

One thing I have noticed right off is that when I click on the Apple TV Devices icon on my Itunes and then go to any of music, movies or tv shows folders, they are all greyed out. Is that normal?

I have my computer set up on my Apple TV as the Shared library, I have custom sync turned on and have selected the movies and tv shows I want to sync, but nothing from my Itunes Computer will ever go to my Apple TV.

Thoughts, or a link someone can send me to? I've searched many places but nothing I've read has fixed my problem. Thanks!

Sounds like you didn't pair the AppleTV and your iTunes library. If you did, try re-pairing them.

Not to highjack the thread but...

If I used something like aTV Flash could I sync iTunes to an external HD on the ATV? I would like to have all my media at the ATV so it is not dependent on my MacBook Pro to stream.
