Ever since I upgraded to Safari 3.1 the bookmarks won't sync (at least that's when I first noticed it). Anybody else having this trouble? Any solutions?

Could it be a bug with Safari 3.1?
My gut feeling is that it's not related to the Safari 3.1 upgrade. I only noticed the syncing problem last night, after having upgraded to Safari 3.1 on Tuesday, but I hadn't actually tried to sync my iPhone for at least a week, so I think that was just a coincidence.

I just found a thread on the Apple Support forums where they recommend resetting the sync history, so I'm going to try that next. Will post back here if it seems to fix the problem...

Synch Doesn't Seem to work completely.

Okay ... My problems seems to be a bit more general than just bookmarks ... but this was the first post that seemed REMOTELY RELATED ...

So ... I had to send off an iPhone for repair ... and I had a spare ( a gift not given yet, to a family member ) so I decided I would use the "gift" phone temporarily, until my iPhone was fixed and returned thru the mail ...

I first did a backup of my current phone and then attached the 2nd "gift" iPhone to iTunes and asked the software to restore the phone from the iTunes backup ...

As a result, it seems that I ended up with a very "dated" restoration ... I could be wrong, but it seems to have backed up my phone to settings from just before the latest firmware update 1.1.4 or whatever the latest firmware is called. (I had synched my iPhone several times since that firmware, changing backgrounds, adding alarms, adding another email etc ... yet all those long-ago changes didn't make it to the new phone ).

I can't say that it didn't work ... the "gift" phone was blank to start with ... yet, I had photos, email accounts, etc etc etc that were never on the phone

But, I lost a lot of data that never made it into any of the numerous most-recent syncs ... ?????????????????????????

I would like to be able to RELIABLY restore settings / data ... or perhaps understand what's going on here ... or be able to make a workaround. I checked all my synch settings before making my last good synch with my phone and during the attempted restore with the 2nd "gift" phone.

... email me if you have Ideas ... I just joined this form to make this post and am unsure if I'll be forming a habit of following this thread.

thanks,

richard

OK, I've found a solution that seems to have worked:
  1. In Safari, go to the File menu and select Export Bookmarks. This will save all of your bookmarks in an HTML file.
  2. Next, quit Safari if it is open. Navigate to ~/Library/Safari and move the file Bookmarks.plist to the Desktop or another location, then re-launch Safari.
  3. Select Import Bookmarks from the File menu and select the file you saved in the previous step.
  4. If bookmarks still won’t sync, move the Bookmarks.plist file again and this time, don’t re-import the bookmarks. Create a new, test bookmark in Safari and attempt syncing with the iPhone. If this works, you know that problematic bookmark data is at play. Manually rebuild your bookmarks.

When I synced bookmarks after completing step 3, it worked, although of course all of my imported bookmarks are nested under an "imported 3/20/08" folder. I need to see if I can rearrange them as before and still sync successfully.
