Syncing Contacts from Multiple Accounts to ICloud

How do I get ICould to sync Contacts from Exchange, GMail, etc. I can only get it to sync from the ICloud account, which has not contacts. What am I missing?

If you've added an Exchange account and a Gmail account, and possibly others, and enabled Contacts for each of them, try turning Contacts off for them and when the system prompts you to choose between keeping them on your phone or removing them, choose to keep them on your phone.

Then, go to your iCloud account, turn Contacts off and back on. The system should ask you if you want to merge contacts on your phone with your iCloud contacts and you should choose yes (to merge them).

I believe that will add all of the contacts on your phone to your iCloud account.
