iPod Syncing Contacts from Outlook on Windows XP

I'm new at this...I am syncing my Contacts from Outlook on a computer running Windows XP Pro. All the contacts come across, but I can't get them into Groups. They are stratified by Categories in Outlook. When I go onto iTunes, the Groups area is greyed out. Any thoughts? Thanks...
