I've read that if you get HD tv shows from the iTunes Store, it will download a HD and SD version of the file. HD for tv and SD for your iPod/iPhone.

Now my problem is sometimes I have HD content that I don't get from iTunes and would like to somehow sync them to my iPhone. I keep all my movies and TV shows in iTunes, all tagged and everything looks nice. I want to be able to plug in my iPhone, select an HD movie, and get the iPhone to sync a non-HD version of that movie that I've somehow attached to iTunes under its structure. Basically I want to give iTunes an HD and a regular file, and make it so that it plays HD on my computer and tv, but syncs the standard deff to my iPhone. Is that possible? (I don't want to have 2 files in iTunes since that would look rather ugly). I basically want to do what iTunes does to downloaded HD content.

Any ideas?

But wouldnt that mean in the general TV shows and Movies section of iTunes I'll see every file twice?

yeah you will see it twice if you have both, only way i can think of keeping them organize is to make a playlist of hd tv shows and sd tv shows to seperate them
