Got my iPad last nite
So hard to sleep after that :|
I'm using same iTunes for my iPhone to sync up my iPad. However, everything for my iPhone got synced to my iPad. Is there way to tell iTunes not to sync certain apps meant only for my iPhone and vice versa?

iTunes allows you to manage what content goes on what device. Simply connect your iPad, select it from the left panel on iTunes (it will be under Devices) and then you get different tabs of options. In here you can select what music, TV shows, movies and apps etc get synced to the device. THese options only relate to that device. If you connect an iPhone or even a different iPad, they will have their own syncing options that you can change.

So plug it in. Select the iPad. Navigate through the tabs (music, movies etc) and select what you want to sync.

In addition to what was already mentioned, I have mine set to not auto sync (manually select...). This way you will be able to select what you do and don't want synced.

Good luck!

Same here. It means I can plug it in, make sure I'm ready, then sync. Rather than plug it in, have it start syncing, either let it fininsh or stop it in the process, make the changes then sync it. Manual sync ftw.

I really wish that Apple :apple: would have separate lists for Ipad specific apps vs. iPhone only apps. I have a lot of apps in my iPhone list and it was a pain to turn them off and only enable universal and iPad ony apps in the list. Maybe in a future update of iTunes......

Like most of Apple's new product launches, the first version software support is pretty limited. I really don't know what they are thinking....they clearly differentiate iPhone vs iPad vs both in the Library/Apps section of iTunes, but when it comes to managing your apps, there is no way to differentiate/filter. Apple is notorious for taking the "fast and crappy" approach when it comes to enabling software support for their products.

Lets hope round 2 addresses this and the whole file management system in general. It really needs some work.

The app organization in iTunes during syncing is horrible. I would like to see them organized similar to the app store. Click on iPhone or iPad and have a plus for universal apps.

We probably won't see it until version 9.2 or 10.x of iTunes, which will probably coincide with OS4.

are you using the same back up for the iPad as the iPhone, or did you create a new profile for the iPad?

There is no need to do this. Each iDevice will display its own set of syncing screens (info, movies, apps, music, etc) when you plug it in. You can change any of the syncing options on one device without affecting another.
