Hey guys

I want to sync my macbook calendar with my iphone's. I know this can be done with icloud and using my apple ID. However, I share the apple ID account with all my family and I dont't want them to have access to my calendar or it to sync to their mac's.

What are my options ?

Thanks in advance

A Google account is probably the easiest and most functional way.

Do you ever get calendar "invitations"...and who is your current email provider?

I have gmail, so google. I'm not sure what you mean with "invitations".

Can i still use ical and the calendar app in the iphone ? If so how ?

I presume you're sharing the Apple ID for purchase from the iTunes store? You could go with a new Apple ID for syncing services and use the current Apple ID for iTunes purchases. This would lewt you sync your calendar and contacts and such and still share the purchases.

Meeting or event invitations via email...they'd automatically be associated with your Google calendar.

On the iPhone, in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars if you set up a Gmail account you can turn on the calendar there. To get contacts to sync with Google, in the same section add an Other>CardDav account with the Server google.com and your email and password.

On the Mac it depends on your operating system. Which one are you on?

Im using version 10.8.5 for the OS.

I set up the calendar account on settings, and added the CardDav account. However I'm not sure what the cardav account is for. Is it so that when I create an event or have a neeting I can invite people?

I only want this calendar to organize myself. The ability of being able to invite others isn't really important to me. I should have mentioned this in the beginning sorry...

Yes, but I have to create a new account, add my bank info again and all of that. Unless I buy a gift card and link it to that account. It's excessive that I need to provide apple with all this info just so I can sync a calendar from one apple device to the other. Don't you think ?

Figured it out!

On the iphone: settings, mail contact caledar: choose the account you wish for syncing and turn on the calendar button.

On the mac: open ical preferences, go to accounts and add the same account that's on your phone.

IMPORTANT (and this is the step i was missing) when adding an event on your iphone select the calendar account that corresponds to the one you selected in the previous steps.

You can also select refresh times in ical so that they sync faster or force sync by relaoding the calendar (the same way you can reload a page on a browser)

It was quite obvious but sometimes the answer is right before you and you can't see it :D

Thanks for the help anyways!
