I currently have mail, contacts and calendar syncing with google servers which in turn sync with my mac... is there ay advantage to using icloud now?

Also - can I just select icloud to be 'on' as well as google without issues.. will I run into any problems if i have it syncing with both google and icloud?

There are tons of folks who do something either exactly like or in a similar way to what you are doing. This shouldn't be an issue BUT;

1. If you only have two calendars you are working on, wait a couple of days and watch the boards to see if any of the early adopters run into issues;

2. If you are talking about multiple calendars, start with two of the least critical to merge first again in case of issues.

AFAICT os x wont let you sync your address book with both google and icloud apparently. you have to choose one or the other.
