I think it is time I upgraded from Mojave, so having gone through everything I am down to my last legacy app. iTunes.
The problem is I have smart playlists for podcasts which decide what gets synced to my iPhone. Technically they group into separate thematic playlists that I can listen to, but iOS broke that long ago so now it is just a jumble in the Downloads section that I have to keep adding or removing from the on-the-go playlist. And I have been listening to fewer podcasts as a consequence.
Anyway, the Podcasts app on the Mac does not support playlists, only stations which does not give the control I want. And an iPhone only workflow for managing and downloading will not work for me. So I was thinking I could use Retroactive to continue using iTunes for managing my podcasts. But only podcasts, because iTunes turned into a slow and bloated disaster that long needed rewriting.
So would it work if I used iTunes to sync podcasts, with everything else turned off, and Finder to sync everything else (from Music and Books etc.), with podcast turned off? Or would they conflict an each try to delete everything that has not been enabled?
Though I am not tied to Apple's own apps if anyone wants to recommend another option that pairs a Mac app for managing my podcasts and a synced iOS player app.
Thank you.
