syncing music only without backup.

i'm trying to do this without having to go through the whole backup/sync everything process (since that takes for-ev-er).

but i don't see an option to just sync music. am i missing something here?

Backups can be created in the following ways:
ÂÂ Once iPhone has been configured to sync with a particular computer, iTunes
automatically makes a backup of iPhone on that computer when you sync. iTunes
won’t automatically back up an iPhone that is not configured to sync with that
computer. If you have configured iPhone to automatically sync with iTunes on a
specific computer, iTunes will back up iPhone every time you connect it to that
computer. Automatic syncing is turned on by default. iTunes only makes one backup
each time you connect, even if you sync multiple times before disconnecting.

There was a long post around here somewhere with someone asking the same question. I think after numerous pages it has been concluded that there is no way to currently turn off backups....but I think that some have had success with clicking the small X button next to the backup progress bar when it starts and it will still continue to sync everything else. I havent tried it yet since the backup doesnt bother me and only takes a few minutes longer, but its worth a shot if you are trying to avoid it.

yeah, exing out does stop the backup, but as far as i can tell, it doesn't continue on to music syncing....

hmmmmm....

As far as I know, the answer is no.

Its really stupid, and really annoying, but at the moment there does not seem to be a way to let your iPhone sync without it trying to do a backup. There are numerous threads about this, and hopefully a new verson of iTunes will fix this stupid problem..even apple can't expect us to wait 5-30 mins every time we want to sync!

In the meantime a temporary fix would be to just disable automatic syncing and manage your music manually - managing manually is a better solution anyway really as you don't have to mess about checking/unchecking things in iTunes (if only we could get iPhones with decent storage capacity eh)
