Syncing of Videos Question

I have now ripped about 50 tv shows and movies to an external firewire hard drive. I also have a lot of music and pics on my IMacs hard drive. Streaming of music works fine so I don't really need to sync much but I syn all my photos to use as screensavers, etc. My question is in regards to movies/tv shows. I haven't been happy to date with the delay in response when streaming a video. I guess I am too used to Tivo. I don't have the 160 Gig ATV yet so I don't have much room. What do you guys do with large collections? Do you think the update will allow you to do a sync (using the ATV) of a specific movie or group of movies from your computer to the ATV. I know I can do this from my computer but it would be nice to sit on the couch and sync a few shows that I know I will watch that night.
