Is there any way to sync the photos + settings on your iPhone with the Photos app on a macbook without using iCloud?

You can sync photos through iTunes. But they won't ever be included in a backup or automatically keep up to date like iCloud.

That's how I do it. I made a folder with some of my favourite photos taken from my DSLR and sync that folder.

Specifically I'd like to sync the photos taken on my iPhone, edited in the photos app that once got moved to the photos app on my laptop. I'd like to transfer them back with the non destructive edits. As far as I know it is only possible through iCloud.

Wish I could just sync it with the photos app on my mac.
