Syncing used iphone to itunes?

I recently purchased a used first generation iphone which already had apps on the iphone, how do sync the iphone to my itunes without erasing all of the apps thats existing? would i need to reinstall another copy of itunes on my computer?

Authorize the computer and just transfer purchases.

I get the feeling OP, who has "bought an iPhone which already had apps on the iphone" hasn't and doesn't want to buy them himself. Tell me if I'm wrong

OP, if somebody else bought the apps on their account they must authorize your computer in order to transfer the purchases.

But you could buy them yourself.
