Anyone had any experience yet with the new Synology Beestation? And especially in relation to using Apple devices: macos, ios etc.

Looks good in principal (we also have a Synology NAS here & works very well delivering media). However the Beestation is aiming at a different market with ease of setup and access for less-technical familiy members for personal cloud backup & retrieval od music, photos, film etc - & one would presume, perhaps Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner images.

The thing is, am still wondering about functionality for Apple devices given Apple's walled garden approach for Photos & Music in particular.

I can't see a single 4TB HDD being fast enough for most things over the cloud. (Flashback to Airport Express w/ Timemachine)

Average sized photo albums and small files like PDFs and text files might be okay. But if a user has a large photo album, even populating the thumbnails might take a moment.

And TimeMachine will be slow.

I know using a 4TB SSD would make it more expensive, but at least it'll be easily useable. Or they should have made it two 2TB HDDs in Raid 0.
