Synology ds216play

Hi,

I bought a synology ds216play and it’s perfect for sharing data...
My question is, what I can do else? Because there a many applications you can install?

I have the ds416play.
Thankfully there’s a good Calendar app that I use, as Calendar stopped sync with iCloud from day1 of iOS 11, and iCloud syncing is still **** in many ways for me.
Fairly new on Synology too. Haven’t got time to explore everything.
I was thinking of iTunes when I get another Mac. But then I heard in another thread here that it was trouble after HighSierra.
Haven’t checked. But will if they release a new MBA 11"ish
Installed a few others like contacts, notes, photos but haven’t found a reason yet to use these apps
But I am really happy with how Calendar in Synology sync across my devices.

I have a NAS, but not a Synology.
My two most used apps are a torrent client and a media server (DLNA).

And Time Machine of course!

I store my iTunes library on the NAS, but I don't use an app on the NAS for that. I just locate the files there.

I have a DS218+ and use it for different things:

Time Machine for two MacBooks
uploading pictures from two iPhones and a iPad to the NAS
Streaming some music (and sometimes videos)
sometimes sharing files with family members (similar to Dropbox)
as a data graveyard/archive for old files.

I'm running 2x8TB WD Red as RAID 1 (mirror)

Many, many things.

The question is, what do you need? File sharing, and backups are the most common, followed by streaming media.

Photo storage and sharing works pretty well, and their remote connection (QuickConnect) is pretty slick to get access from anywhere on the internet.

Drive is their Dropbox like feature that let's you synchronize files automatically across multiple devices.

Web server, Calendar server, Contacts server....so many options.
