Do you think that the iPod Touch is a phone less iPod? It's actually the other way around. The iPhone is a iPod with phone functionality.

The price drop was all planned. The iPhone isn't Apple's golden child, the iPod is. Even Steve said that the iPhone is the third priority after the iPod.

What many of you don't know is the the iPod touch is THE touch screen device. The multi touch thing was initially destined for the iPod but Apple are very smart. They launched an iPod with phone functionality, set the price dead high + contract requirement, and made some quick cash.

The iPhone is nothing but a 15 minute cash cow who has gotten slaughtered now when the iPod touch is here. Just look at the iPod touch, 100% iPhone cannibalization without any care at all. The iPhone has the latest weeks been a way for Apple to over charge or made Bugs Bunny money quicker than a Cocaine supplier.

A 200 dollar price cut just 2 months and a few days after launch!! I've never seen anything like it. That's a kick in the nuts to all those who acted hookers for Apple's marketing team.

Apple really jerked their most loyal customers this time. I would be pissed if i bought a 8GB iPod last month.

I'm a marketing student and this whole thing is the most genius stunt I've ever seen in the consumer electronic industry.

*Apple presents the iPhone
*Generate larger than life hype and publicity
*Builds up HUGE inventory ready to sell one to everyone who wants one, hence the iPhone never sold out.
*Overcharges for the product, nobody cares because it's unique and is an apple product.
*Sell over a million iPhones
*Cuts the price barely a month after launch and makes the device less attractive by launching the iPoh touch.

What a way to earn millions of dollars in a drug lord-like way.:apple::apple::apple: $eve Job$ is the man

Very good, but you have left out the part where apple takes over the world.

I am not an expert at marketing, but I truthfully believe things don't work like you have just said they do.

The iPhone still IS a VERY important product for Apple. What happens is that there were a lot of smart phones that were getting good music players, that eventually could make the iPod sales decrease.

So Apple makes an iPod with Phone, or a Phone with iPod...and by doing that, they assure that they have both markets covered. So now people that are always on the move, are able to have their favorite music player mixed with a phone.

Apple is just seeing what the future would bring. The most probable scenario is that in the future your cell-phone would be one of the most important devices you'll have.
Nanotechnology is ought to make some extraordinary things happen with these kind of devices.

Just imagine how much can be achieved with a small, but yet powerful, device that you take everywhere with you. You don't take your iPod everywhere, but you do take your iPhone everywhere.

So I have to disagree with you.:) I don't think the purpose of the iPhone was to make some quick money and open ground for the iPod touch. The truth is that one day the iPhone would end with the iPod, and would become one of the most important products for Apple.

I agree, many music players on cell phones are on par with the iPod, excuse me, I mean were on par with the iPod. Apple's plans are quite brilliant, the iPod Touch and iPhone synergistically working together to generate more money, create hype, ect. ect. And the price cut, wow, what a great way to sell more iPhones, and what'll be the HOT product this christmas again? Do I even need to say.
