Hi, I have a pretty new MacBook Pro 16 inch M4 Pro with 48gb RAM.
as you can see below I have a lot of free space and not many programmes at all installed. mostly just MS Office suite and discord/spotify/telegram/whatsapp. Nothing on Spotify is downloaded.

I have another thread open regarding an issue with SSD writing I am having, not sure if this is related.

Any ideas how I can solve this? I have looked at a reddit post which mentions to turn on the setting "use as system photo library" tab in the photos app, however on my machine it is greyed out and not able to select.

Just be patient and give macOS background processes opportunity to finish their housekeeping. If the laptop is "pretty new" and you believe there is hardware issue, exchange the laptop for another or open a case with AppleCare.

Mine has done this for HOURS and HOURS. How long does this go?

Hi, Ive had my brand new MacBook M4 Pro 24gb Ram for two and a half months and it's been constantly calculating system data since I've had it. I've got an open case with apple they had me erase my drive and do fresh install twice, it works for about a week but has gone back to calculating again, all it takes is deleting a file/changing a setting or just doing nothing and it goes back to calculating. Ive been on the phone to them multiple times they've done diagnostics and they still have no answer apart from it might get fixed with a update and they apparently know that this is a issue for some people. It's my first Mac and am pretty pissed that a brand new machine that cost so much isn't working as it should. it's also creating a lot of library issue logs. I hope they fix it soon.

Try Disk Utility's "First Aid" on everything you see from your main drive after activating "Show All Devices" in the View menu, beginning at the top.

Thanks! Ive done this before but stated at the bottom first, i will try from the top if that's what you're meaning. Do you need to be in safe mode? or can i do in normal ? Cheers

Just to test if there is a corruption in the file system, don't know if it's really important where you start. You could try doing this also from the Recovery partition. Safe Mode wouldn't make a difference I think.

Edit: I just tried myself the Storage option because I also had a similar problem a while ago.

There was a huge grey block of documents. Dont't know if it ever got fixed. It's on my other Mac that is currently not in use. I think I used another external drive with a new clean install later and just left the internal drive alone.

Now everything is there after maybe 4 seconds.

Hi, I ran Onyx and that didn't help but I can fix it by creating a test user then booting in and out of safe mode then after that I delete the test account and it goes to normal for a while until i save or delete any file, so thinking its got something to do with how it stores files. I will do a EtreCheck report and post back.

No updates but here’s my EtreCheck report.

Here's the photos of EtreCheck Report sorry if they are out of order.

Hi Adora,
Ive posted my EtreCheck Report in this thread not sure if it will help?
Thanks

came across this post whilst looking for a fix, I am having the exact same issue, also tried wiping the drive and reinstalling macOS and nothing, mine started happening after update 15.3 before this update it was fine I installed 15.3.1 hoping that would contain a fix but nope so annoying.
