Help. I have a mid-2015 Macbook Pro, OS is Monterey 12.6.7, SSD is 1TB. System Data is taking 459GB, almost half of the SSD. What can I do to reduce System Data? Thanks.

You tried ncdu? It's a good tool for looking at disk usage. The reason why I suggest it is because it lets you see directories that you wouldn't normally be able to. You can just see what's taking up storage, and if it's not a critical system file, you can just delete it by hitting D. It's installed via brew, so make sure you have Homebrew installed before you run it!

There are other tools like Onyx and OmniDiskSweeper that you might try, too.

Download DiskWave from here:
It's small in size and free.

Open DiskWave and go to the preferences.
Put a checkmark in "show invisible files".
Close preferences.

The DiskWave window shows you all your volumes and drives in plain English (no ridiculous graphical formats).
Click on any item "on the left".
Now, you'll see what's ON the volume, listed in order of "largest to smallest".
You can easily locate what's eating up your space.
