This morning when I booted my mac pro I got this error -

The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/IOStorageFamily.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.

How do I reinstall it ?

How did this happen ?

Now it seems I can only boot from my main boot drive in SAFE MODE, but still get that error above.

If and when I try to boot normaly I get the startup chime and that's it, cannot see what is going at this point as my graphics card has no EFI boot.

Any help would be really good on this.

That is a standard kext that comes with OS X, but it sounds like the file got corrupted somehow. Have you installed any drivers or aftermarket utilities or anything you can think of that may have caused a problem with this file?

The fact you can boot to safe mode and not normal mode is interesting, because safe mode prevents any login or startup items from launching. Check for any login or startup items that may be causing this.

If you have to, you can reinstall the OS to get the kext file back.
