System Folder (from old Mac)

I just got a new 24" iMac and used Migration Assistant to move everything from my old iMac. It worked great. One of the things it created is a folder named "System Folder (from old Mac)." May I delete it?

I have the very same question! I moved from a Powerbook to a 20" iMac C2D. I was gonna delete it, but wanted to know if it's ok first.

I'd have thought you could delete it, it copied it so you could copy anything in the System Folder if you wanted to.

It makes me wonder: how "idiot-proof" is OS X ? Without an admin-account I guess you're not able to mess things up.
But how WITH an admin-account? Could you delete important files, or would you need root acces for that?

You can rename your home folder with minimal privileges which messes things up.

It is 100% OK to erase the "System Folder", you can verify this is the old system folder by a few things:
1) It actually has Folder in its name.
2) It will have folders such as Control Panels, and Extensions, and the Finder inside of it.

Deleting this folder has nothing to do with OS X, and was transferred for the sake of transferring. Your new iMacs cannot run OS classic and therefore this data is useless.

Things not to do.
1) Do not rename your home folder (Ever!).
2) Do not mess with any files in your computer directory.
3) Do not erase things from the Library folders.
4) If you are trying to delete something and you have to give your password, it probably means you're deleting something you shouldn't. Hit cancel if this occurs.

Otherwise OS X is pretty idiot-proof. But ultimately not 100%.

Actually, if you install SheepShaver you can run OS8/9 PPC apps on Intel-based Macs under OS X. I still play Duke Nukem on mine.
