System prompt stuck.

Hello fellows,

I have an annoying problem. I can't find anything about this. Maybe I use the wrong search terms.. Whenever a system prompt appears, it will not go away. Like, for example, the one shown here:

Extension blocked? Fair enough. It's not about that. It's that these little prompt windows will not go away! Pressing 'OK' or 'Learn More..' does absolutely nothing, and the prompt remains on top of all other windows. Sitting there. Taunting me.. 😅 And it's not as if it's an app I can simply force quit. It's some system thing.. Restarting Finder does not help either.

Only a system reboot, or log out and in again, fixes it. It has happened a lot lately. How can I make this go away? Is there a certain process I can quit in Activity Monitor? Or is this a "normal bug" in the OS right now? Hope someone knows something.

I use a 2018 Mac Mini. Running latest macOS Monterey 12.4.

Thank you, but like I wrote, it's not about that. The problem is not about the system extension thing it informs me about. The problem is the little window it's written in. The little system prompt. It's stuck. It should disappear, when clicking 'OK'. But it does not.

If you approve or delete the extension and reboot, the window should have no reason to appear again.

If you can't find the culprit through the "blocked" window message, then I think the app EtreCheckPro will probably help you find that errant extension. When you have found where it "lives", you can then remove it. As mentioned above, after you remove the problem extension, then you shouldn't see that window again.

Thank you for trying to help. 🙂 But again.. The problem is NOT about the system extension. I showed that image as an example, to make clear what TYPE of window I was talking about - system prompts. So, my problem is this:

Whenever any system prompt window appears (like the one shown), no matter what the prompt window is about, the window can not be closed. It will not disappear, UNLESS I reboot or log out.

Unless these windows are not called 'system prompts'? But that's why I showed a picture of it, so there was no doubt. I'm talking about the small windows, which have that little 'house with the dial' icon on it. Any of those.

I think I was thrown off by your use of the term "System Prompt"... I don't think the system uses that term for that kind of window. and my first thought with a system prompt, is a terminal window, but moving along from that -- I think it would usually be generated/triggered by the kernel, from information tracked by SIP, or some other reporting function from within the system.
Regardless, when I come across some odd problem with the GUI, I will often suggest booting to your system installer, and continue with a simple reinstall of the system. That will not affect whatever other apps you may have installed, and just might result in those "system status" windows responding properly again.
(This is a handy time to use that bootable USB installer that you probably made when you upgraded to Monterey. If yours is not up-to-date for the current version 12.4, then you might download the current one from the App Store, and redo your USB installer - with the idea of using the current version for the full reinstall.

Aw, man.. There WAS something about this.. Sorry about that. 😏 Thank you. I will try the TCC reset, and see if that corrects things. 😃

I'm sorry for the confusion. Terminology is a tricky thing.. 😄 If the TCC reset solution fails, I will try and reinstall the system. It's somewhat drastic, but I guess I don't lose much more than time, so what the hell. 🙂 Thank you!

"tccutil reset All" did not work for me. I wish I noted the errors I got.. 🙄👍🏼 But it reported some error specifically with one of my older apps. I just deleted that app, and ran the command again. Then it reported another error with an app I deleted a long time ago.. Okay.. 🤔

I ended up going into recovery mode, and deleted the database file itself. Then, of course, a lot of apps wanted permission to do various things again.

I then ran the installer that gave me that "System Extension Blocked" prompt (or whatever it's called 😂) earlier today. I clicked 'OK', and the window disappeared!! 😃 Hell, yeah! Thank you!

I’ve experienced this with password prompts, and it seems like a recent bug. Because I have not found what service manages the prompts — to kill and restart — an inconvenient log out is necessary.
