I have an early (?) 2015 MacBook Air Model 7,2 with an i5, 8gb, and a 251gb SSD with about 200gb available. Was reading somewhere that perhaps upgrading the OS to Big Sur may be of marginal value on older machines. Was wondering if upgrading mine would be recommended. I have also read that I have essential "paid" for OS upgrades through the purchase of the Mac, so should do it. However, I do recognize there is going to come a time when there may be diminishing returns. Would like some input. Thanks!

Always use the latest OS unless you have specific reasons not to. Big Sur should run fine on your computer.

I cannot agree with this advice. My view is: do not upgrade from what you have unless you have a specific reason to do so. More of my dissatisfaction with Apple devices comes from upgrading them when I shouldn’t have than any other cause.

Have similar specs but 2018 version with T2. Did an Erase of Catlina 10.15.7 Supplemental and Clean install Big Sur 11.0.1. No issues thus far. Hums along with a learning curve involved
