OK, this is very, very annoying.

I'm on a MacBook, bought a few days ago. I had all my photos and music set up in iTunes/iPhoto. I had my bookmarks in Safari and Firefox. I had given MSN, Itunes, you name it, all the info they ask for when first using a program.

And now for some reason, I have no idea why, my cmputer wants me to do this all over again.

Finder will find the iPhoto and iTunes folders, but they just don't exist in the import windows. So not only do I no longer have any media in iPhoto or iTunes, I can't even reimport, unless I move all my stuff to other locations. I don't want to do this.

What the hell is going on? The only ting that I can think of having done is renaming my home folder in the sidebar. I'm lost...

Have you renamed your user account recently because doing that will cause this to happen

Yeah, so create a new user account in System Preferences, go into it, rename your current user account to what it used to be, and it should be all fine. You can then delete this new user account if need be. It's a good rule of thumb to not rename anything on a computer that you haven't created yourself. :)

Yes, the problems ocurred after I renamed it this morning. Urgh.

Any idea how to get iTunes and iPhoto to see my folders?

Edit: I didn't rename my user account ID, I simply right clicked on the title of my home folder in Finder, chose "rename", and, well, renamed it. Simple as that. I never went anywhere near system preferences or my account settings.

Yeah, but I find the best way of naming it back is through a different user account. You should be able to regain your music and photo libraries through the app's respective Preferences. Just point the default location back to where you keep them now. :)

Under Macintosh HD you should be able to find the folder that used to be your user account, I think you can just drag the contents into the new user folder that you have created by renaming the user account and all your filles and settings(prefs) should return.

Thats what I meant, because you changed the name of your home folder the computer would have been looking for (it) the original folder but couldn't find it so it created another and moved/ignored the original.
