I have an iMac 2.8 Duo and try to reinstall the OS but when the system starts to load but then just sits there at the loading screen. Whats up with that?

What loading screen? the gray screen with the Apple logo and the spinning action gear? a blue screen? the login window? It would help a lot to know which screen you're referring to.
