System Storage

I am needing help cleaning out my system storage it is taking up 44g of 121g and I am trying to run a partition so that I can run a software that can't be ran without windows and I am needing about 5 more g to download the software that I need to run (its about 26gb)

Call me Captain Obvious, but it sounds like you need to delete stuff.

You don't mention what OS you're using, but likely you can go to About This Mac, Storage, Manage and that should give you some good ideas where you look.


Offloading data to an external drive is probably worthwhile. Or even apps, if you're not using them regularly. Running the system with very little free space tends to cause problems of its own at times, so you don't want to be too close to the wire.

Yeah that is pretty high. I'm using 22GB for my System.

Check System Prefs, Languages, what do you have in there? Please show a screenshot

You could also consider something like Dr Cleaner. I'm not sure how much functionality is in the free version though.

Are you using Time Machine? Are these Time Machine backups that could be eating your space?

im not real sure I just went through a deleted things I didn't know I had on my computer and got it down to 24

Not gonna get much lighter than that...without hacking away at stuff that can be risky and tedious to remove.

A good tool to get a much more granular view of storage is Omni Disk Sweeper. Shows everything, and sorts by size.

But be warned, you don't have much left to pare down.
