Dang Tmobile is on fire! Anxious to see rootmetrics report on their comparisons.

Can someone please run a few speedtests while on a call?

I am curios to see the speeds. AT&T throttles all speeds during call to 1mbps or less.

I tested this extensively when I first got my iPhone 5 back in October. I could reproduce it every single time, and it wasn't a problem I had on my iPhone 4.

Since then, it appears that something has changed, as things are back to normal on it.

Another Speed Test on Miramar Rd (92121) near Audi Dealer

I tried doing test while on call, but my iPhone 5 jumped back on 4G, instead of LTE!!!

Tried it many times (even hours later). Reminds me of the EDGE (2G) network. On EDGE, when u make a call it drops out... On LTE, it drops back down to 4G EVERY TIME (while on call); then goes back to LTE after end of call!!!

Anyone else getting that result?

You can't use LTE during a call. It will always switch back to 4G

Yes but using T-Mobile 4G during a call won't result in throttled speeds. AT&T's 4G (HSPA) is always throttled during calls. I get 6-7 down with AT&T then during calls it barely goes to 1mbps.

Any new markets light up? Anyone from the Detroit area seeing anything yet? I'm very tempted to switch to TMobile in Detroit, but looking to see the LTE speeds first.

According to Sensorly T-Mobile LTE is starting to light up in Detroit.

We all recently switched from AT&T to T-Mo, but my wife (lucky) got a free company-paid iPhone 5... Unfortunately with Sprint; but it's FREE (phone & service)

Anyways, she said her iP5 switched from 3G to LTE today. She was either in El Cajon or Santee...

Sorry for not exact info, but she drives all around SD County for her company's 15 retail stores and she was at either of those 2.

LTE in Carlsbad & North Encinitas!!!

I was driving Northbound I-5 when I noticed it near Leucadia, La Costa, and Poinsettia. It was 4G @ 7:30am, now it's 9:30 with LTE!!!

No network near Palomar Airport Road... they must be switching it now.

Hey Coleman,

Thanks for the info. I went and checked out Sensorly. How do you know that it LTE? It just shows on the map as a really strong 4G signal, based on the legend. T-Mobile also has 4G (or what they call 4G, which is HSPA+) already in Detroit. Do you know for sure that Sensorly means that this is LTE?

The purple 4G on the sensorly website map is LTE. If you use the sensorly iPhone app it has it labeled as T-Mobile LTE.

Ok, I'm not trying to be a pain, but I downloaded the sensorly iPhone app, and I don't even have a selection for TMobile(LTE) in the choices for Detroit. I only see TMobile (GSM), and I see other ones like AT&T(LTE) and Verizon(LTE). Where are you seeing TMobile(LTE)?

Click the icon on the top left of the iPhone app. Then click on T-Mobile LTE. The attachment is a screen capture of Detroit.

Data throttling by Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint confirmed:
https://www.macrumors.com/2013/06/05/developer-claims-three-major-carriers-throttle-iphone-and-ipad-data-speeds/

Yay!!! T-Mo ROCKS!!!

This is a pretty ridiculous statement for them to make. There are plenty of stupid fast LTE speed tests posted here on VZW/AT&T, etc. It's not throttling. The lower speeds are due to network conditions and what APN you're using.

They throttle while on a call AND after users have used up the "carriers' max speed cap"... Meaning, after user has used up 2GB/3GB or so of data, then speeds slow down to 2G (EDGE), not 3G!!!

Read the fine-print of your carrier's data plan. Even if you have Verizon's or AT&T old "Unlimited 4G" Plan... The "Unlimited" refers to user having no extra fees for overages since it's unlimited and the "4G" refers to the data type they offer, BUT their plans are not "Unlimited 4G".... 4G speeds are for the first 2GB/3GB of data used and then you get unlimited 2G speeds.

Don't believe me? Read fine-print

BTW: T-Mo has no fine-print... You really get "UNLIMITED 4G"!!!

I'm talking about LTE throttling. There is no active throttle at all times.

Yes, there's a QoS system in place during calls, but that's it. The throttle line for the old unlimited plan is 5gb on LTE, but I go past that all the time. Haven't been throttled in a long time. Even then, I still got around 1 mbps.

I have read the fine-print. Let's not pretend that TMobile doesn't have any. They reserve the right to terminate you for excessive or abnormal use at any point, even if you didn't sign a contract. And they run a stringent QoS algorithm for bandwidth, like every carrier. LTE seems to be rate limited in many areas for TMo.

Network Management: Data traffic of postpaid plans with limited high-speed data allotments greater than 2 GB will be prioritized over other currently offered plans during periods of congestion. Service may be slowed, suspended, terminated or restricted for misuse, abnormal use, interference with our network or ability to provide quality service to other users, or significant roaming.
