iPhone T-Mobile carrier update for LTE, VM, etc come in iOS update

According to tmonews, the carrier update for the iPhone to support T-Mobile's LTE, visual voicemail, and other network settings will come in the form of an iOS update. Looks like it's a choice between jailbreak and LTE for some. I'll personally be staying with my jailbreak

How about you guys? Or will you guys just use the current jailbreak method for LTE?

Carrier update is not an iOS update.

It just updates the carriers settings. You can except that and stay on your current firmware

In tmonews, the beginning words of the quote is "The T-Mobile Carrier Update is a minor iOS software update that enables official iPhone support by T-Mobile."

It said "minor iOS software update" so I assumed that was an iOS update. Unless that means otherwise?

It means otherwise…

it only updates the carrier settings, nothing more.

Based off that quote, it sounds like it could be a 6.1.4 to enable these features. If it was a carrier update, seen here - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5526 then it won't require a patch for iOS. I remember when AT&T first launched MMS for the iPhones and you had to go through this route to enable it.

I do remember receiving AT&T carrier updates separate from iOS updates, but when recent networks overseas switched on LTE, Apple had to issue 6.1 to enable that functionality.

Thus, I would assume an iOS update will be required along with another passcode fix in 6.1.4.

6.1 was a bit more than the LTE support, especially the exchange bug was solved in that.

that might be true but apple did release iOS 6.1.2 LTE for several countries yet it was only a matter of a carrier file knowing apple this might force you to update...

Again, also the 6.1.2 update was for several reason's the LTE support not being the most important.

To have full LTE/AWS support you need a new phone, the carrier update will thus be for existing IP5 only; the hardware tweaked version is released on the 12th.

The tmobile document says "minor iOS software update". Who knows, it's useless to bicker over. And with the refarm, AWS will be useless shortly anyways.

You don't need a whole iOS update to enable or install such carrier config settings.
Those are separate.
