My pal is looking to get an iPhone and use it on a prepaid (GoPhone or T-Mobile) plan. The thing is, he does NOT want any wireless data available.

Does anyone know how to block data on either carrier? I know on AT&T it's quite easy if you have a plan, but I do not know on a prepaid plan. I have no idea how you'd go about it on a T-Mobile prepaid plan.

And I suppose he could use a program like BossPrefs to block data, but I don't want him to have an issue with it as I've heard some have.

Which will be cheapest and easiest for him?

I believe that you could prevent EDGE access simply by removing the EDGE settings (Settings/General/Network/EDGE). The phone will try to connect if it doesn't have a WiFi signal, but it won't be able to.

i just got tmo prepaid. you can't get data on it even if you wanted it. You do have access to like 4 mobile sites for free as a bonus (tzones portal, cnn mobile, espn mobile & abcnews)

Another - T-Mobile has the unlimited plans for $1 a day for sidekick. Will those work?

I am quite happy with tmobile (prepaid).
According to a vendor, data plans are available to postpaid plans (and AT&T plans suck no matter how you think about it). If I had to use EDGE I
would get one of these.

But...the way I see it, I am saving 60 bucks per month by sticking to tmobile prepaid. Since I paid 250 bucks for my iPhone, in 4 months it will be free.

Could not be happier than now. :)
