I understand most of jailbreaking an iphone but when I ask specifics I just get told to do a google search and it comes up with old, old info.

So, what are the steps to getting an iphone to work with T-Mobile in view of ZiPhone?

1. Obviously, buy the iPhone
2. Can you just get a cheap phone from T-Mobile on a one year plean and move the sim?
3. And if so, do you put the T-Mobile sim in before you do anything else?
4. Then what?

What are the steps please.

Thanks.

OK, I'll indulge you.

1. Buy iPhone.
2. Insert your T-mobile SIM
3. Get it into restore mode; (hold the home button whilst connecting it to your computer or another method).
4. Run ZiPhone. (You must choose activate, jailbreak, and unlock options.)

There are more detailed instructions in the ZiPhone package.

I did similar.

1. Buy iphone (got my last week from Apple Store)
2. Remove ATT sim and set phone to restore mode
3. Install latest itune from apple.com
4. Run ziphone via command line
5. Insert t-mobile sim
6. Enjoy.

This is what I did:

1. Bought iPhone at Apple sotre.
2. It was version 1.1.2, so I restored with iTunes to get 1.1.3.
3. (with AT&T sim still inside) ran ZiPhone 2.3 (2.4 on my GF iPhone), used options Activate/Jailbreak/Unlock.
4. After it rebooted and I could get into the iPhone, I shut it down and replaced the AT&T simwith my T-Mobile sim.
5. Turned on iPhone and started making calls.

I went from the Apple store straight to the T-Mobile store, I said I want a family plan (for me and my GF, we both have iPhones now) and I want to use an iPhone with my family plan. They said okay, here are you free phones you can toss these in the trash if you want. And I went home to complete the above steps.

I get great service everywhere I go, (Except the mall area at the U-of-Minnesota, I think it is because there are lots of tall buildings and trees) WiFi works great everywhere, and I have myFaves unlimited texts and 700 anytimes minutes to share with my GF for about $35 cheaper than AT&T iPhone family plan.

Thank you very, very much for your indulgences...

I could never find all this in one place.

Maybe it's out there but I couldn't find it.

If anyone else would care to jump in with their experiences and the way they accomplished this "feat," please do so. :)

The more the merrier :D

Got a little quick there...

What kind of plans can you use with T-Mobile or perhaps I should ask what plan should I use.

I would like all the functionality of the iPhone (realize you don't get the voice mail thing) and seldom ever use more than 400-500 minutes, few texts but would like to have the ability to receive and send email and of course get to the internet as well as no roaming or long distance charges.

HEY NOW, I figure if you were nice enough to give me the other advice you all wouldn't mind giving me one more hit. :D:D

I really don't know which plan you need from T-Mobile. My current iphone, I share the SIM with my T-Mobile Edge Blackberry. My TMobile plan has the regular 1K minute with the corporate (aka BES) and unlimted Internet. I switch to iphone when I'm sick of reading my work emails.

Like the previous poster said, everything works fine, wifi, youtube, internet, mail, install.app, voicemail, incoming/outgoing calls, etc.

Really appreciate all the advice and info.

I did find a lot of very useful information on iClarified.com. Very good site for a lot of tutorials on how to do things on the iPhone.

I'm starting to feel not quite so dumb about the iPhone - ok, so I have a ways to go but I'm getting there. :D

Also, I'm assuming if you want to use the internet through edge you should add the 'unlimited internet' plan for T-mobile, right?

That's what I was thinking also but was hoping there are enough wifi spots around that it would take care of that. I'm out in the boondocks so maybe there aren't - guess I could try it and see and if needed I could pick up the internet. :D

That plan is 20 bucks a month. The "T-Zone" plan is 5.99, and you get the same thing... you can send that extra 15 bucks a month to me, if you like!:)

Are you serious?? The T-zone plan already covers all unlimited internet????? Surely there must be some pros and cons between the two (other than price)? Who all are using unlimited internet with just the T-zone plan?

Totally serious. It is all I have- and I have all the Internet I can use! Call them up and they will tell yu. And do not be afraid to tell them you have the iPhone- they could care less.

My plan

So my plan is going to get the 16 gig iphone and activate i t-zones then:

-download Ziphone 2.4
-use my current sim card from my sidekick in my iphone for the installation and unlocking and jailbreaking.

-Then enjoy my iphone with full internet capabilities and T-mobile phone service.

does this sound right?

I just bought a 16gig and unlocked it using iJailbreak. I can dial out but I can't used edge. I can use wifi. This might be due to the fact that I just added the t-zones plan. Hmm...

Great so My Favs works on an iPhone. Has anyone tried to see if "Hotspot at Home" will work? Not sure what all is needed for that other than WiFi. Which iPhone has.
