Will it work?

I've read only a few things that say yes (that said, nothing that says no).

Found a deal on them, if anyone is interested in one, let me know and I'll pass the link along.

what do you mean?
The Napa Centrino platform.

Yes, the Mac mini is Napa based but it can still accept Core 2 Duo processors. It's a worthwhile upgrade if you can recoup some of the cost by selling the old Core Duo. The hardest part is the take apart down to the processor but you already have experience with that.

All the Intel minis use the same chipset, right?

(Mine began it's life as a Core Solo 1.5 - I didn't do the upgrades, bought it this way). I have swapped the optical drive.

I'd been contemplated getting another one, so I can take my time with the upgrade and then resell the extra one (or not, use it as a HTPC)

Is that site legit?

Been planning to do this upgrade, but needed the chip price to go down. That's def. a sweet price on the chip...(half of what everyone else charges). Will the existing heat-sink and fan from the old chip work on this chip? (since it's OEM).

Any bad experiences with that reseller? (Edit: They seem to get good marks on ResellerRatings)

By the way, here's a link to an old T7600 mini upgrade thread:

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I might do 3 upgrades on my mini 1.66 Ghz Core Duo to the 2.33Ghz T7600 chip said in this thread, an internal wifi N-card and @ least 320GB 2.5" SATA drive..

I will be waiting for chip prices to fall to a reasonable levels..

In my research (got another thread going in this subforum), the 7200 rpm drives are significantly faster than the 5400.

Are you guys doing this mod to the latest model or can you do it with the first intels?

I need a mini that can upscale dvds and eyetv to 1080p on the fly admirably. Will this achieve that or is the problem still the integrated graphics?

All the intel minis are the same chipset. Meaning it doesn't matter - mine started life as a first gen intel (core solo). Other people are doing the same mod with low-end of the latest gen.

Not sure about the upscaling. I've never had any video (or any other) performance problems with my mini (currently running a CD 2.1GHz).

Forgot to say it'll be 7200 rpm ..

UPS website says estimated delivery is tomorrow, but it was scanned "out for delivery this morning."

I'll post more updates as I have them.

Just noticed, CompuMusic doesn't sell the chip anymore. Glad I got in when I did.

What were your temp readings idle/load?

Also, what did you use for Thermal Compound (I'm planning on using AS Ceramique)

I can't remember exactly. I have them written down at home but they did not go up after the upgrade. I think they might have gone down a few degrees. Its a great upgrade. Fans don't spin any faster either.

Thermal Compound= Arctic Silver 5

It was delivered today. Unfortunately, I was running late from work, so the UPS guy left it at the office (in my apartment complex) and since I was running late, the office was already closed.

Oh well, tomorrow afterwork beckons.
