Tables in iWork Pages auto resizing columns

When deleting columns (or rows) in tables in Pages, the remaining columns (or rows) resize themselves so the total width (or height) of the table is unchanged.

Anyone know how to delete columns so that the remaining columns do not resize? I have tables where all the column widths are carefully determined, deleting a column and then manually restoring all the other column widths is getting tedious.
