Somewhat of a vent:

So, the Apple Store at the Tacoma Mall just opened on Saturday as the largest in Washington state, and yesterday I saw two guys steal three iPads just as the mall was about to close. I took my little sister to see the wonder that is the iPad (she really wants one now) and as we left the iPads to look at the iMacs the two guys had moved over to the iPads, which were right near the entrance/exit of the store, right after looking at the iPod Touches and within about 25-30 seconds a loud alarm went off and the two thieves were out the door, I had tried to chase them but they were too far ahead and out the exit in less than 10 seconds.

For some reason I have this anger inside me that makes me wish that I hadn't left the iPad area, so that I could have stopped the theft. I am also angry that low-life scum stoop to these levels. Don't get me wrong, I can understand people stealing food when they can't afford it and have no other choices, but "A" holes likes these are just sad. I hope that they fix the security situation at the mall to have someone near by because it seems like it's just too easy to steal iPads and book without being caught. Has anyone else seen problems like this? Do any Apple Stores have their own security?

Yep people steal.

This society is pretty awful at times, I mean how can other human beings strap on explosive device, and then walk onto a bus and detonate it or teachers abuse students.

While bad, on the list of society ills, I'd say this one isn't in the top 10.

Stopping a theft in progress or attempting to is a pretty stupid idea. You could get hurt. I undertand your anger but best leave things like that to the professionals.

Agreed, and given that its only for an electronic device, its not really worth risking yourself.

Good thing no one got their finger tip ripped off. That happened with a previous iPad theft near the mall I visit.

It was really interesting when I was working in Riyadh to notice how the store layout is a bit different as compared to the US stores. You see all kinds of little knick-knacks right by the door, without anyone having any apparent concerns.

Then again, they do have that famous square right downtown between the mosque and the medieval Ottoman fort. The ones with the itchy hands end up right there. This seems to work amazingly well.

Exactly, so many people get hurt because the criminals come prepared, with knives or guns, where as you, weren't...

Yeah, but then if you don't confront them, the criminals murder your Uncle Ben and you have to spend the rest of your life prancing around the city in spandex to try to assuage your guilt. It's really a no-win situation.

I liked that town better when citizens used to stand up for themselves and actually whip a thugs ass without those "professionals" thumbing their noses at simple self defense. Maybe I am just getting old.
