Hello all,

I have just received my lovely new 27inch imac. This is my first mac coming from windows and I was wondering if people could recommend OSX tagging software for my DVD collection. On windows I used metaX, however, I know that on mac there are more options. I've seen alot of people talking about Identify and see that its on the mac app store. Any others that i should be aware of before I purchase this?

Oh this will be tagging DVDs for my apple TV and iPad in case that makes a difference.

Cheers

Phil

As you say, quite a number out there in the mac arena.

I love iFlicks, but for speed iDentify i cant beat.

iFlicks is a better 'All in one' solution, able to convert files, metadata add, add to iTunes and dump the original file. Its not the fastest at any of the two main things, converting and tagging, but as an overall solution, pretty darn good.

Btw...metadata is metadata....device just reads whats in the fields. So iPad Iphone, Apple TV, iTunes all access the same thing.

And MetaX on OSX has been un-supported for quite some time. Avoid it if possible. It brings a number of problems to the table. I stopped using it something like 2 years ago.

Another vote for iDentify (actually, newest version is iDentify2), not sure if the version on the App Store is the same as the version also available for direct download on their website. I did notice that on the website, the version number is newer. Also, the direct download version is free (limits some of it's features--primarily dumping result into iTunes, I believe), can pay for full functionality.

Subler is free and has worked perfectly for me. There is a built-in metadata search for TV shows and movies which has found everything I've thrown at it.

Here's another vote for iDentify. I tried MetaX about a year ago, and after it rendered some of my encodes as unplayable by iTunes, Plex, and XMBC, I've never tried it again. Even if I didn't have that issues with MetaX, I'd still prefer Identify over it, just because it's faster to batch tag files.
