Hi,

i'm trying to take a screenshot of a menu (and only) the menu. One of the entries should be highlighted in blue. However, the saved screenshot always has that entry in grey, as if the menu isn't in focus anymore. This didn't happen in Mavericks.

I take the screenshots with these steps:
1. Open the menu
2. Highlight the appropriate menu
4. Press CMD + Shift + 4
5. Press space over the menu
6. Click

When creating a screenshot of an area, or the entire screen, the highlight is correct.
I've attached two screenshots, one that shows the problem, the other an area screenshot containing the same menu with the look i want to achieve.

It is important for me to only do a screenshot of the menu, as i need the transparent shadow to be included in the image.

Is there a way to get back the Mavericks behavior with the highlight?

Rather than just hitting space, how about dragging to select? Once you do the CMD-Shift-4 it doesn't "deselect" the selected menu item when you move the mouse. See my screenshot, you can see the shadowing behind the menu.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, this doesn't limit the screenshot to the menu. I want the menu to be the only element of the screenshot, including the semi-transparent shadow, so i can overlay it over other images. This doesn't work with a cropped screenshot.
