TAKEphONE for iPhone released

Not to be antagonistic, but what functions do this app add to the existing phone or a good voice dialer? Is it the big numbers? The speed dialer sounds nice, but it's 2008 now and I can search for a contact and automtically dial their number by just speaking their name into the phone's microphone. Or the feature of searching for "john" using T9? Whose going to use T9 now that can just use the onscreen qwerty or just their voice. Is this app just for nostalgic reasons?

I have no argument with you about the voice dialing - it is indeed more convinient - when it works. I personally do not always find it comfortable to use - especially in noisy environments, or when I do not want to "talk to my phone", like in meetings, etc.
Anyway - in my opinion TAKEphONE makes using the phone much easier than using the QWERTY keyboard - the buttons are much larger and easy to tap (especially one-handed), plus with TAKEphONE they're always there - no need to flick the screen to the top to find the search box, then tap it, and only the start the search.
More - since the buttons are always there - you can start dialing a manual number right away and dial.
More - tap & HOLD on one of the 0-9 buttons to dial a speed dial record right away.
So almost every action you'd want to do with your phone is just a few taps away - even fewer than using the voice dial in some scenarios.

Just bought it at the sale price of $1. Coming from the Treo world, I know how good Shimon's apps can be (own TAKEphONE, 2Day, 2Dial and 4Cast on PalmOS). Not to mention how he's one of a handful of extremely responsive devs on that platform.
The iPhone version of TAKEphONE is (currently) a pale shadow of the PalmOS version but this is hardly unexpected. Apart from being an early version, Shimon (and all iPhone devs) must deal with the onerous and draconian limitations of the SDK.

- Please merge the capabilities of your TeleTone app into TAKEphONE. There is so much overlap between the two apps it makes no sense having two (especially for us "AppHogs" who have almost maxed out our 9 springboard pages). I see "Press & Hold" of the "Call" button popping up a little option menu -- Call, Text, Tones.
- Please add a default area code feature so I can (once again) dial 7 digits instead of 10. It would be great if there was a similar 6-digit prefix for 4 digit calls so I can call people at my office using just their local. PalmOS Treos have these capabilities built into the default Phone app and its quite handy. If you choose to go this way, though, please don't duplicate the Palm bug where the prefix is added even to special cell numbers (i.e., the ones that start with '#' or '*').
- Provide a simple way to launch the native Phone app from within TAKEphONE.

- Merging TAKEphONE & TeleTone - will probably do this, had the same idea as you (long tap allows selecting call methods - "normal", TeleTone, and maybe others).
- Agree on the auto-prefix thing.
- Not sure I can launch the native app from within my app - Apple does not allow it, as far as I know.
Love TakePhone from my Treo days. Hope you continue to improve on this app to make it as intuitive as the Palm OS version i.e websearch, picturedial, calendar integration and so on and so forth. Keep up the good work.

I must say - currently I dont see a way to incorporate ALL the features TAKEphONE for Palm has - cause of SDK limitations, but - who knows - maybe Apple will open things up.
