Taking iPad to Sweden w/ Visa!

Hi!

I´m in the US on a J-1 visa and I´m going back to Sweden on Saturday and I have one question for you guys. I bought an iPad to my dad as a birthday present (I´m a good son lol) and my question is if I need to declare it or not because I have the visa.

Just take it out of the packaging and take it through customs as you would your normal laptop. Initiate it first in the US so if customs ask you can switch it on and show them it is your machine.

The section on taxation covers says it is specific to what status you have on your visa, but it foes not refer to products purchased whilst under the visa waiver program.

I would stick with claiming it is your property, but I doubt that customs would even ask if you just put it in the laptop tray at customs to go through the scanner on the way out of the US and just walk through the green channel in Sweden .

I did this with my US ipad on a trip to the UK before the UK version was released.

I'm from Norway, i was in London on a 24 hour trip to get an iPad 2 weeks ago and i could just take the iPad with me home in the box only if i was in England for 24 hours, since here in Norway you havent to declare items under 6000 NOK.

Okok! My brother bought an iPad while he was here and he just walked through customs w/ the 64gb 3g. Was just wondering if I could keep the plastic on it and stuff because of my Visa. Btw I´ve never seen anyone in the "green channel" in Sweden lol...

Green channel = nothing to declare channel.


Or do all swedes declare everything they do, in UK we just walk the green channel.

Do you not have red and green channels in Swedish airports like they do in the UK

Good question, I think we have this thing that says "Toll" or something but never seen anyone there. Just assumed that´s called "the green line". I´m gonna look Sunday !

DPH - I will be in Norway rin August. Do you know if I will be able to get a short term 3G data plan locally? In the past, I have purchased the international data plan for my iPhone from AT&T, but that is pretty expensive for the amount of data you get (c. $100 for 100 MB).

Im going to the US soon, and Im thinking of buying an Ipad 3G. And ofcourse I would like to be able to use the 3G-networking here in Sweden.

I´ve read that you could take a 3G-dongel (mobile internet device) and cut the sim-card to create a micro-sim. and then put the micro-sim into the Ipad and that would work fine.
Is this true?

Because I have a 3G-mobile internet device from Glocalnet with a normal size sim-card. Im wondering if I could use this for my Ipad. Or does it have to be a sim from AT&T? Does Glocalnet work with the Ipad?

It should work - I'm from Denmark and I have an iPad from Germany and it works with a Telia simcard cutted down to a micro sim.

Just walk in the "green channel" and you should be fine. I live in sweden, ordered my iPad from the US without any customs problems...
