Well my first iPhone has already had its number of problems...

1. Buggy software/firmware (Of course not the phones fault)

2. There is a defect in my screen. Looks like possibly a finger print on the underside of the glass. When you look at the screen at a slight angle you can see a huge dot in the center of the screen. Very annoying!

3. And to top it all off, my phone will now not boot up! It is stuck on the apple screen. I was downloading the Boxoffice app from the appstore last night over wifi, and in the middle of the download/install it rebooted. Ever since then I cannot get it past the apple screen I have even tried recovery mode, but iTunes says there is an error [6] and the iPhone cannot be restored.

So, I am taking it in to Apple's Genius Bar in a little bit and hoping they will give me a new one (doubt they will even have any in stock so I will be without a phone for a while).

So, Apple's iPhone 3G release in my eyes... FAIL!

Failure? Apple? Not Possible. :)

Also what you're saying about the screen sounds to me like a dead pixel. If you bought a 20" LCD from say...newegg you must have 8+ dead pixel before they can exchange it for you.

However the iphone's screen is much smaller so I'm not sure what the return policy is on that.

Also the crashing is due to the app not the phone, these apps aren't all made and engineered on the same quality scale.

Dead pixel, no. I am talking something the size of a fingerprint, not a pixel (hence why I said seems like there may be a fingerprint on the underside of the glass). It is in no case a single pixel. The pixels themselves work just fine under this "spot", it is just that the pixels are darker then all the other ones. Maybe a dust or dirt covering the light used to show the screen? I don't know...

I would try to get a picture of it, but my phone won't start.

i have the same problem. it does not look like a fingerprint mark but just a round dark spot about 1 cm across. it is darker than the surrounding screen and is most noticable when an all grey screen is up such as when loding safari or app store. anyone know what it might be or what i should do?

Take it back; the genius bar is pretty good with these things, and you should have the 14-day period to return your item (with a restocking fee). Good luck
