Long story short: do you take photos on your iPad? Can you post some? Is there a thing such as iPad camera reviews and comparison with other cameras?

Long story long: I'm thinking about getting an iPad, so I re-watched reviews about them and something struck me in one of MKBHD review (about the M1 iPad Pro): he talked very little about cameras, even though it's one of his main interest point for the iPhone, and urged us to "not take photos with the iPad". But why is that so? Is it that iPad cameras are bad? Or is it juste because it's hard taking photos with such a big device? Or is there something else? Because I'm someone who takes many photos, and if an iPad is about to get my daily driver, it would be nice to be able to use it as a camera without having to go get my iPhone (even better if the iPad Pro could take better photos/videos than my old iPhone 7).

I couldn't really find anything so I'm here to ask you guys: do you take photos with your iPad? And why/why not?

(P.S: i tagged iPad Pro because it's the one I'm considering buying, but feel free to participate even if you have another iPad)

Most folks on enthusiast forums and YouTubers as well of course like to make fun of people who drag their iPad around in public to use it as a camera for their snapshots.
I’m guessing a huge part of it is the increased bulk compared to your smartphone.

Personally, I use my iPads mostly inside and my iPhone when mobile and about. The cameras of the iPad are often times used with FaceTime calls and for document scanning.

Using the iPad as a regular snapshot camera is a bad idea and apple doesn’t see that as the primary use case either. My iPad usage is the same as others, mostly the screen.

The camera on my 2021 12.9 is quite good but the size makes it unwieldy and impractical as a general photo device. The camera on my smaller Mini 6 isn't bad but neither is it that good. If I'm not using my DSLR or compact, I use my iPhone 12 Pro Max which has a very good camera, especially with video and when shooting in ProRAW.

On a recent TV program, Rachel Griffiths used her iPad to capture paintings for her own reference and to later show other people. Didn't seem unusual at all. Makes more sense than using a phone/camera to transfer, sort and view on a laptop. Why use two separate pieces of gear when you only need one?

Imagine you're at a graduation or something with a number of parents using iPads for taking photos/videos and blocking your view.

Yeah, reference shots and "scanning" paperwork are the kind of things Apple puts the camera there for, and for you to shoot video at home/somewhere where you're not getting in other people's way.

You can AirDrop on the phone or use a SD card reader for the camera to get something onto the iPad fairly easily for everything else.
