Talk with Apple store in dallas about Battery issues

I just got off the phone with a manager from the apple store in dallas who discussed some of the battery information...He stated that have been told that the phone will handle about 400 cycles of recharging. Stating that is the phone fully discharges down and then needing to be recharged. He stated many compare this to the Ipod batterys and they would be able to replace it in store. He went on to state however that many people charge their cellphones on a daily basis so consider changing the battery alot sooner than say someone using an Ipod.

Lastly when asked about costs. He stated unsure at the moment but to have an Ipod battery replaced costs around 69 and one could expect that.

WOW...Kinda sucks....Everything else was not a big deal but sorry guys this battery thing really has me down.....I dont really care about spending the money on a new battery just down about the technology aspects and how it was thought through.....Steve should have forseen this. Maybe he did and wanted the extra cash but with such a device it really should be more than just 400 times....Thats less than 1 1/2 years if that.

I don't think that is a bad price. $69 for the battery and installation. How much do extra batteries cost for other phones?

My 1.5 year old RAZR can talk for about 3 hours before dying. I think battery drain is common for any device, not just the iPhone.

You might have to explain that one out....on my Razor they will replace for free through cingular....Atleast that is what happened on my first razor....Oh well no biggie I guess but glad to hear they will fix in store...

He stated Apple plans to deal with all the hardware issues and AT&T with all the service issues...Duh

Oh no not stopping me at all...Infact by then Im thinking I will be getting the second generation....No worries just sucks they didnt make something to last longer

400 cycles should be no concern for most people. Even if people charge their phone every day, it will not count as one cycle a day unless it´s fully discharged. As an example, say you use 1/7 of the battery a day and charge it every day, you end up using 1 cycle a week. The iPhone has 8hrs talk time and 250hrs standy, so chances are you´ll find yourself using far less than a whole charge. I guess real-life usage with music and videos will drain the battery quite a bit, but I still reckon you´d get 2 years out of the battery before it´s in need of a replacement.

I seem to recall that the spare battery for my Treo 650 (got it the week of initial release) cost $60 or $70. I know they're available for as little as $20 now, but it was still a steep charge. In fact, most new phones' batteries are expensive as all get out initially, because there's little to no standardization in the form factors.

Assuming 2-3 year lifespan for an iPhone (replace with 2nd/3rd Gen after this one starts to get mungy), I'd expect to need to replace the battery once, twice at the absolute most. If it's $69 for the battery and replacement while I wait at my local Apple Store, then I can live with that.

This is assuming, of course, that the software/firmware/OS upgrades to the current gen iPhone aren't able to keep up with new capabilities significantly. Based on the known "deficiencies," that's unlikely in my case.

And no, lack of 3G or GPS are not deficiencies in my book. They're benefits.

Really, all I want to know is whether someone will hack MacSaber for the iPhone.

$ 69.00 divided by 547 = .12 cents a day, we are not talking about the gross national product of The United States here. That equates to 3 cases of imported beer or 4 cases of American WP. So with 547 days equating to 77 weeks and 72 beers come in 3 cases this means drinking one less beer a week. So my in my evaluation the battery change will help you lose weight as well, those guys at Apple leave no stone unturned do they
