For some reason, every time I press and hold the Option key, my Display System Panel window opens. This is especially annoying when I'm copying files in Photoshop and it seems to happen regardless of which application I'm using. I've checked through all of my keyboard shortcut keys and modifiers and nothing else seems to be linked to the option key. Anyone have any idea what's going on or where else I should look?

If it's helpful, I'm running 10.11.5 on a 5,1 MacPro with an Apple wireless keyboard. Thanks!

Does it only happen with the wireless keyboard? Does it also happen with your laptop keyboard?

What happens if you open the event viewer, delete everything and record the keypress even and post it here?

I've only had it happen on the wireless keyboard since that's my primary keyboard but I could plug in an old USB keyboard and see if that changes anything (and I'm on a Mac Pro tower, so no laptop keyboard).

As for the event viewer, I'm not familiar with that. Is that a specific application I should investigate?

Sorry, I misread macbook pro.

To open the console search for Console on Spotlight, there's a bunch of info, stuff whtnot, Press the Delete All or Erase (I have spanish system, sorry,) that should clear your screen.

Then reproduce the error, once reproduced, go back to the console, copy all the system messages and paste them here to see if we can get a better idea of what's going on.
[doublepost=1541175228][/doublepost]Console is part of your OSX, it's like a windows event viewer I think.

Sorry for the delay. I did some investigating this weekend and found that when I plugged in a second keyboard and pressed the option key, nothing strange happened. But it continued to bring up the Display window whenever I held option on the wireless keyboard.

As for checking with Console, after clearing the logs, I pressed option, the Display window popped up but nothing appeared in the Console window until I started doing other things like closing the window with my mouse. So don't have anything to post here.

In the meantime, I've also been having other strange problems with my machine that have made the option key behavior less important (though maybe related?). Now my machine won't sleep without immediately waking up and if I try to restart, I don't here the chime and it fails to start up. I've tried resetting the SMC, zapping the PRAM (that lead to a kernel panic), and so I replaced the 3 volt battery on the motherboard. So working through various problem solving and maybe one thing with resolve the other. Though if anyone has any ideas, I'm open to suggestions! Really don't want to say goodbye to my old tower.
