I just got a ApplePro for work and plan to use it for taking notes when I am with a customer.

I tried the native Notes program that came with the ApplePro but it does not do the job. I hear that there are several

3rd party apps that should work great .

I am looking for the following features:

1, Able to take notes written with an Apple pen and then convert them to text.

2. Easy to file and easy to retrive. I guess that I will have to set up an effective filing system

3. Able to file the notes on OneDrive and then store them on my computer.

Any suggestions, I really appreciate any help.

The three of the best Apple Pencil Apps are GoodNotes, Nebo, and Notability. However all Apps store text in their own format, you will need to export the notes to OneDrive in a standard format like pdf. As you say you just need a folder structure in OneDrive. GoodNotes, I prefer to Notability for the best handwritten notes app. However your requirement to convert handwritten text is the sticking point. I don’t think Notability has the option to convert handwritten text, at least it did not the last time I used it. GoodNotes allows you to search your handwritten notes, and works well and does allow you to convert blocks of text. If you intend to convert all your text then Nebo is probably your best option. I have not checked Notability, but GoodNotes and Nebo allow you to export to OneDrive.

You say you want your notes on your computer. If you use a Mac then GoodNotes may be worth looking at as it has a companion Mac App that allows automatic syncing, so you don’t have to mess about exporting your notes. That is one of the reasons that I use GoodNotes.

Nebo works well if you have reasonable handwriting, mine looks like a spider dipped in ink crawled across the page whilst having an fit, so I spend more time correcting the text than it is worth. I only use Nebo if know i need to convert to text.

Notability does convert handwritten notes to text. It was added in an update early in the year.
You simply hand write your notes, then using the clip tool lasso the selection, tap on the screen inside the lasso and select ‘convert to text’.
A window will pop up showing the conversion. You then simply accept the conversion and the notes are then converted.

I’ve used both GoodNotes and Notability. I quickly switched to using only Notability as it met all my needs. It is actually one of the most used apps on my iPad:

- note taking - of course great for this. Does have the ability to convert to text and is very accurate. Also, has the audio taping feature to go along with the note taking.

- presentations - I did a lot of training for my job and would download my PowerPoint presentations and any workbooks to Notability so I could annotate, underline, highlight and make lists as I was presenting and the participants were giving ideas. No need for a flip chart in the front of the room - truly paperless. And after the class, I could send the presentation with all the additional notes to the students for referral.

- digital planner - most recently I found a Franklin Covey style planner pdf with hyperlinks between the annual, monthly and daily pages. I downloaded this to Notability and love it. I like the hands on writing and ability to search to find a particular note.

It has great search ability within a note in handwriting mode. You can easily merge documents and also share with others only the pages in a document that you select.

You can set up your file system anyway you want in Notability and can also send documents to OneDrive.

I find Notability extremely versatile, very intuitive and just easy to use.

I'm looking for the same thing, as my intention is to purchase an iPad Pro when the new ones come out.

The last device I had that was able to do this well was a Newton MP2000.
Why Apple has not implemented this capability as a built-in feature of iOS is puzzling to me.

Anyway, based on @Nhwhazup's post, I'm going to give Notability a try.

I believe you will like Notability. I’ve had it since getting my IPP 9.7 over two years ago and am finding new ways to integrate Notability all the time. As I mentioned, it’s my most used app on my IPP.

I also agree with you, Apple should have integrated the calendar and notes together in iOS with better functionality.
