Tapatalk 4 battery impact.

Since installing Tapatalk 4 oven noticed an extra 20% battery drain on my device than with prior version of Tapatalk installed. It's also the number 1 app in my battery usage. Has anyone else experienced increase battery drain since installing.

Admittedly I'm still getting through my day aplomb, but it is noticeable that the drain even on light usage days US considerably worse than it was prior.

I've noticed no extra battery drain with tapatalk 4. Battery usage doesn't show it using significant battery either.

They are set to PUSH. That's probably the cause.

Sometimes if you get a rogue app eating battery, uninstalling it and then reinstalling it will fix the issue. TT4 being in beta, I give it some leeway on bugs.

That being said, I've got both it and TT2 installed, but I've gone back to using TT2 exclusively. TT4 just isn't ready for prime time yet and I'm sure they'll get the bugs ironed out, but TT2 is solid for me and works flawlessly.

This is not news I wanted to hear. I am using my iPhone 5 because I wanted the push notification for quoted posts. TT2 does not offer it on android, so iOS was the only option that I had if I wanted it back. This is not the only reason that I switch back to using my iPhone more, but it was one of the bigger reasons. When MacRumor User told me in another thread that they had TT4 with push notification I was pumped, but if it eats up battery because of push notifications no thank you. My nexus 4 could just get the through the day. I don't need an app that will hurt battery life.

To each his own, but I don't really understand the complete need for push on a forum congregating app. Email, sure...people need push email for business, among other things. But is it really that important when we're talking about getting back to someone quickly on a forum (when you've been quoted or received a PM?) I actually hate that they're going to push-only on TT4, as I simply set TT2 to check every 15 minutes on whether I have notifications.

I'm not bashing anyone for wanting push...everyone has different needs...I'm just questioning whether you NEED it (especially at the expense of battery life).

Yeah well normally I end the day with 50-60% battery left after moderate use of my phone. With Tapatalk 4 I'm ending the day with 30-35% .. my battery life has been consistent, the only thing that has changed is tapatalk. .

For heavy users it could be the app that kills their battery...

Do I need push? No not at all, but I do want it. The TT2 app for android does not even alert you when someone has quoted you. The only time I got a notification is when I subscribe to a thread. I don't want to subscribe to every thread I wrote on. I just want to know if someone quoted me. I don't want to have to go back every so offended either to see if someone replied to me. It is just nice to have the phone tell me.

If push notification for TT come at a battery cost I don't want any part of it. Yea I can do without, but like I said in another thread. I enjoy reading and posting on Macrumors. It breaks up my work day, and changes things up. A lot of the time I don't have time to just check my phone to see if someone replied. With push I can know someone quoted me, and check it when I get a chance. So again no I don't need it, but do I need a smartphone no, but it makes my life a lot easier.

I think I can now put myself in the heavy user category. I kill my iPhone 5 just about every day. Maybe since the app is in beta they can get it fixed, but I might want to uninstall it on my nexus 4. Thanks for the heads up.
