Having a weird error that I can't seem to figure out or find a Googled answer for. Just upgraded from 9.3.5 to iOS 10. Testing out tapback feature in iMessage with a friend. When I tapback, I see the bubble next to the message that I responded to. However, when my friend tapbacks, his bubble doesn't show. Instead, I get a new text message that spells outs what his response was. So, it looks like this.

Me: Hello?
Him: Liked "Hello?"
Me: What?
Him: Questioned "What?"

I am on a 6S Plus and have restarted the phone three times. Has anyone seen this?

iMessage is a mess in Sierra. Few of the new 'effect's are even working. No Full Screen effects show up on my Mac and only 'Invisible Ink' shows up out of the bubble effects. Are we even going to have full support by release day? Seems unlike Apple to release something clearly half finished.

My conversations are full of '(Sent with balloons)' or '(Sent with loud effect)'

Yes, I have seen the same thing with the text content in parenthesis like you describe. I was testing this with someone with whom I had a text message thread that has been open and active for about a year now. So, I deleted the text thread, restarted my phone, and nothing has changed, same problem. Sounds like this isn't a problem with my phone, per se, but a larger issue with iMessage. This is very annoying. I can say that if I try to tapback on the spelled out tapback that I described above, my texting partner does not see those tapback. So, you can't tapback a tapback.

You have to delete your text thread with that person AND that person has to delete their thread with you then both need to restart phone. That was the only fix that worked for me when I was using the Betas.

Have you tried some things suggested/mentioned over at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-10-message-effects.1995249/ ?

I don't think this will help. I don't have Reduce Motion on and it seems to be a macOS issue only. You can't even send full screen or bubble effects from iMessage in macOS and now it seems you can't even receive them either. Very poor.
There's also the suggestion of disabling and re-enabling (and re-activiating) iMessage that seemingly fixed some of these types of issues for some people in that thread.

Thank you, this worked. We both deleted the text thread, I turned iMessage off then on again, and that worked. Weird that it would work for him from the get go and not for me, but at least it's working now.

It seems to a be a broader issue I have multiple friends who are upgrading and for some people they get them to work great, for others not at all. I hope that a 10.0.2 fix resets iMessage a bit and fixes these little problems.
