Hi
I have a mid-2015 MacBook pro, running 10.14, and a late 2013 iMac, running 10.13.6.

I've connected them together as follows:
macbook > mini display port adapter > vga cable > mini display adapter > iMac
Cables connected via the thunderbolt ports

I've tried to use the cmd + F2 to use the iMac as the display screen, but it flicks off then back on with the iMac screen. Its like it's trying to switch but going back to the original.

Any ideas of what I need to do to use the iMac as my MacBook screen? The person that had the iMac before me was using the same setup before it was reset by our IT guys for me to use.

Thanks in advance
Daniel

[doublepost=1542440937][/doublepost]I found this discussion:

https://www.macissues.com/2014/04/17/troubleshooting-imac-target-display-mode/

Specifically, there is a response from Martin Bonar in the comment section:
"Same problem. Then I opened System Preferences Displays and found a new option called ‘Arrangements.’ Checked the Mirror Display box and bingo! Set up is 2013 iMac 27 (Thunderbolt) to graphics crippled late 2009 iMac (MiniDisplayport) using MiniDisplayport to MiniDisplayport cable from MacLab."

I did this to connect my 2011 MacBook Pro to my 2013 iMac using a TB cable. Also check in System Preferences/Keyboard that the checkbox for the "Use F1, F2, etc. keys..." is unchecked. If it is checked, the combination to mirror changes from Command-F2 to Command-Fn-F2.

Hope this works.

I’m 99% sure this won’t work with this cable arrangement. You need the Apple Thunderbolt Cable - it needs to be a native Thunderbolt connection end-to-end.
