Target display mode - Ventura

I am trying to find an answer to the following

Can I use target display mode with the following setup:

iMac 1:
Late 2017
OS: Ventura

iMac 2:
Late 2012
OS: Catalina

Connectie: Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter from iMac 1 and thunderbolt 2 kabel from adapter to iMac 2

De 2012 iMac i haven’t purchased yet so I can’t test it. I’d rather know if it will work prior to purchasing the second iMac.

I want a second screen next to my iMac but my ocd can’t stand a non matching screen.

I have seen posts from people that say this works - and that the macOS limit of Catalina doesn't hold - that is you can use newer macOS versions. I don't have the hardware to try this out.
