I have a 2014 MacMini in a rack in a closet running 24/7. On occasion I can't remote desktop into it, and need to. Instead of buying a monitor, I have an unused 2009 iMac with FireWire 400 and 800 ports on it that will boot into target disk mode. Can I use a Thunderbolt to FireWire dongle and FireWire cable and get Target Display mode to work with this setup?

Thanks for the help!

Target Disk Mode and Target Display Mode are two very different features. The only iMac from 2009 supporting the latter is the 27" late 2009, and it requires a Mini DisplayPort cable.
