So I bit the bullet and ordered my first iPad: an iPad Pro 2018 11”. It’s going to get mixed use - starting mainly with my 4 year old using it to use apps that help build on her skills in learning how to read. We’ll also inevitably use it as a general consumption device that we currently use our phones for now. My kid also likes drawing so I want to get the Apple Pencil 2 at some point, once I see a good deal.

So I’m thinking we’re going to set up the iPad with a new Apple ID, add it to family sharing, and put screen time restrictions on it so we can monitor it from our phones.

Since I’m working from home I’ll probably play with Sidecar also since I have a work MacBook Pro. That should be fun.

I also ordered a Zugu case to go with the iPad.

The only other tablet we’ve had in the family was years ago... a Google Nexus 7. Back when I was on Android. I’m familiar with ipads obviously but not since iPadOS came out. Had an iPhone since the 6s so I’m obviously familiar there.

Am I on the right track? Any tips?

Just FYI, to use Sidecar both the iPad and Mac need to be signed in with the same Apple ID. This definitely applies to wireless Sidecar, I'm not sure about over USB, though Apple's system requirements seem to not differentiate between either method on the Apple ID issue: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT210380

Ah thanks for that. I wasn’t aware but that makes sense. Hmm I need to figure out what to do then.
