So I'm attempting to get TF2 running on my new $1300 macbook. I've downloaded Crossover and Steam, and I've installed TF2. I'm attempting to launch it, but it reads that it's downloading. It's a quarter of the way there but it estimates 6 more hours. Is this typical? Is it supposed to take this long? Is there any way to speed this up?

Well, from everything I've read in other topics, I think Crossover will be easier. I just hope it doesn't reach the end of the download and screw up.

True, it is simpler but, the performance in Crossover is not as good and it tends to still exhibit bugs (mouse performance is still la real problem). However, if you are just testing then it should be great for that.

Urgh, hope you enjoy it running badly! I tried TF2 on Crossover a few months back and was not happy with the performance. Had to reduce it to DirectX7 to get performance within a similar frame of Bootcamp (on the same machine).
A quick glance into my TF2 folder says its 2.35gb.

Anyone with Bootcamp care to give a performance verdict on TF2 with the new Macbook?

Well, it finally finished downloading and I've been playing it. I turned down all the settings and am using dxlevel 80 and it's running pretty smoothly, if a little jerky occasionally, but nothing I can't live with. Once or twice it's lost the connection and frozen but quickly recovered.:D

Thanks for the post but can you give us some fps I want to know if your in the 40-50 range or 30 range.

Thanks,
ChrisN

Hmm... well I'm glad I used boot camp. I can get way better performance on my iMac. But congrats on getting it to work, ya the file isn't that small.
