Can someone tell me if team fortress is any good I've never played it before and I'm downloading it now cause i need something to hold me over till resistance3 for ps3 and its FREE ,I was just wondering if it has a fun multiplayer and if theres still a good community because i know its an older game? thanks

OP there's a huge army of people still playing it. More play now than they did during the launch week, that doesn't happen for many games.

I Got it al downloaded yesterday and it wouldn't start up for me it would verify tf2 file get to 100% but would never launch so I'm reinstalling it to see if it solves the problem

Be sure to play on Valves servers or dedicated noob servers before moving into some of the more hardcore territory. Otherwise you'll get absolutely murdered. Luckily with the move to F2P there is a huge amount of new players you can learn how to play and experiment with.
I don't like the game.
That's not to say it's a bad game, but the only reason I'm playing it, is because it's free. I wouldn't pay any money for it.

Steam itself sucks, but for a FREE game, TF2 is awesome! There is a hard core "cult" of people who play it seriously, and a large amount of people who play it just for fun, and it works for both. I woud strongly recommend trying it out, although, like previously stated, it has a very specific style that if you don't like, you may not enjoy the game.

As others have mentioned finding a good server will be part of the enjoyment equation. Since you asked about a "good community" I'd personally recommend The Ville. It is where my wife and I play and the regulars are very respectful and welcoming to new players. http://www.theville.org
